Peter’s Perspective of the Journey

Peter’s Perspective of the Journey.

Over the past couple of days, Room 8 has been learning about a book called the Treasure Box. One of our activities about the book was a freeze frame. We had to make 2 freeze frames which were about “trudging along” and “huddling close at night”. During those freeze frames, Mrs George asked us questions about what our emotions were at the time. We then took those emotions and made a list. Using that list, we made a short story about the perspective of Peter, the main character of the story, in just 15 minutes. The story is about Peter and his Dad, along with other townsfolk, fleeing town after the enemies bombed the library.  Here’s the story now.

“We’ve been walking for almost 4 hours now, when it is gonna end!. My entire body feels sore And my feet are bleeding, all this heavy luggage isn’t helping either. Everyone in the group is terrified and uncomfortable from walking with so much luggage. Some people have passed out from exhaustion. Us people at the back don’t even know where we’re going, we just have to hope that the people at the front know what they’re doing.

It’s extremely cold today and the rain isn’t exactly doing us a favour. All the smoke in the air has blocked out the sun. Most people have given up hope that they’re ever gonna be saved, but still continue to trudge along. My hands are sore from carrying so much luggage and my spine feels like it’s going to snap in half. Right now, our only hope for survival is to find some sort of shelter in a refugee camp or something”.

My Hair

My teacher Mrs George asked the class to describe our hair without saying the word hair, so here’s my description

A modest amount of thinly cut, jet-black that is rough, sharp and pointed, sometimes a little diminished and scarce but always inky black like obsidian.

Manatees

Manatees, also known as sea cows are in a really bad situation right now, Manatees are an endangered species with only 13,000 left in the world. Manatees live in rivers and feed on seagrass and algae. Right now, manatees are facing a food crisis. Algae that form on the surface of the water are preventing sunlight from reaching the riverbed, where all the seagrass is at. Because of this, the seagrass isn’t able to do photosynthesis.

Other things are causing manatees to die off. One of the main things that were causing manatees to die in the previous years were boats. Manatees are very curious creatures, so when a manatee gets too close to a boat, it may get shredded by the propellers. Thousands of manatees die every year because of this. Pollution in the water is also a big threat to manatees. Pollution is a common threat among most sea creatures, so the manatee’s case isn’t much different than, let’s say whales. People have come up with many solutions to solve pollution, but some still don’t follow them, which is why pollution is still a threat.

Global warming is another big threat, but then again, global warming is a threat to most creatures even on land. Manatees are just a small part of the animals that are affected by global warming. An easy way to stop global warming is to slow down deforestation. Especially for the Amazon Rainforest. 17% percent of the Amazon has already been deforested and although the number may seem small, it has made very significant contributions to global warming.  If it keeps going at this rate, the Amazon Rainforest will be completely gone by 2064.

Manatee’s, like all creatures, are special and should be cared for. All animals on earth deserve to be cared for. The Earth won’t last forever, so it would be nice to experience these animals while we still can. One day, your descendants may not be able to experience such unique animals that live today, so you should always care for the Earth, for everyone’s sake.

About Me

Hi, My name is Julio, I’m 11 years old, turning 12 this year. I was born in the Philippines and lived there until I was 7. Then one day, My dad found a job in another country, so my family and I moved there. Fortunately, that country was New Zealand. I have a family of four. Me, my Mom and Dad, and my little sister who is 8. My family and I live in the city of Auckland. To be specific, We live in the town of Panmure. Panmure is a nice community full of friendly people. I go to St Patrick’s, a Catholic school with a little over 100 people. I’m a year 7 student in Room 8. My favourite subjects are maths and writing. I have 4 friends, they’re really great guys and they’re also very funny. I don’t regret leaving the Philippines, even though I left all my old friends. My old school in the Philippines made me do way too much work, so much to the point where I had barely any time to do anything else. My goal this year is to talk to more people so I can expand my friend group. I’m really excited to get working on my blogs, they’re one of my favourite parts of learning on the chromebook.
